Community Gardens

The benefits of joining a community garden go well beyond being able to enjoy your own local, freshly grown produce.  Being a community gardener is also a great opportunity to meet your fellow neighbors, whether its while tending to your own plot, volunteering for maintenance and special projects, or socializing at our summer picnics.  Even if you’ve never gardened before, a community garden can be a great place to learn!  So what are you waiting for?

Garden plots may be leased from March 20th to October 31st for $10.  Each lease comes with free access to the Lookout St. tool shed equipment, seed/plant shares and the site amenities listed below.  Raised beds are used to avoid potential soil contaminants such as lead, which are tested for on an annual basis.

Please note that plot vacancies will be listed by March 20th, after renewing members are given the opportunity to renew their membership.  All remaining plots are open to new members on a first come first served basis.  Applications can be sent at any time, and will be processed in the order they are received.

For full details or to apply for a community garden plot, please refer to the Community Garden Agreement.  A completed copy of this agreement should be mailed to:

Troy Hill Citizens, Inc.
1619 Lowrie Street
Pittsburgh, PA 15212

A drop-off box is also conveniently located at our office.  The application process can also be completed digitally.  To do so, please select Send To: “Community Garden” from the Contact form and attach the completed, scanned agreement as a PDF using the attachments feature.

Once your application is accepted, the $10 payment can be made either by cash, a check payable to Troy Hill Citizens, or by using PayPal.

For additional questions, please submit the Contact form with Send To: “Community Gardens” selected.  Finally, there is a Facebook group called Troy Hill Garden Project available to all gardeners.  Thanks!
