Held December 9th via ZOOM – Recap below.

Want to see what you missed? View the recording of the Zoom meeting here!

Updates from Councilman Bobby Wilson’s Office

  • Welcome to Faith Mudd, the new Community Liaison!
  • Capital Budget is currently in progress and the last meeting is December 10th before voting starts.
  • Lowrie Street Bridge Update: The major parts of construction are done – we are now waiting on utilities to be installed and then the weather will have to be warm enough to pour finishing concrete. Timeline is January 2021 for project end.
  • Rialto Steps and Big Runnel – we are working on seeing what funds are allocated for this and when it can be done. First the city has to take bids and accept a contract in Spring 2021.
  • Lowrie Road Repaiving – this is still in the plan but was on hold for 2020 due to the heavy contstruction equipment for the bridge. This will be back on the list in 2021.
  • Cowley Rec Center – the Department of Public Works will probably have one more round of feedback from the community for this project, probably in early 2021.

Sargent Burford, Zone 1

  • Very little crime reported recently!
  • The biggest issue has been package theft. Please secure your packages or have them delivered to your office, etc.
  • The Police are one again fulfilling toy wishes for kids this year. If you know a family in need, call Zone 1 and ask for Officer Darrick Payton – he will add them to the list.

City Of Pittsburgh Community Affairs Update

  • Snow Angels is accepting applications! You can sign up to help a neighbor in need.
  • The City Budget is in the final round of approvals. Please feel free to ask any questions you have about the budget process.
  • The Mayor is expected to sign COVID-19 Sick Leave policy for the City this week!
  • The Clean and Lien Team is being launched in Pittsburgh to deal with property violations from repeat offenders. Normal 311 calls will be routed to this group as needed.

Updates from Representative Emily Kincaid

  • Welcome to our new State Rep!
  • She will not be officially sworn in until January, but people are welcome to reach out to her office in the meantime – 412-321-5523
  • She and her staff are getting set up in their new space on East Ohio Street.

Troy Hill Citizens Updates

  • W’re sorry to say that we didn’t have Pigtoberfest and we won’t be hosting the Tree Lighting Ceremony this year due to COVID-19. You might have also seen our little tree at the intersections of Lowrie and Ley. Don’t worry, it will grow! We are being sustainable and planting a tree instead of buying one each year. We’re excited for it to get a little bigger for next year. In the meantime, Troy Hill Citizens volunteers will safely decorate it this year.
  • You might also notice that the lights, our festive candles for down town, aren’t hung yet. Due to a lack of fundraising and events this year, we are storing the lights for the 2020 holiday season and they will be back next year.
  • Board Seats for 2021 are open! If you know someone who would like to get involved put them in touch with us! Bios have to be submitted by December 31st. Email them to us at TroyHillPittsburgh@gmail.com
  • We will also host 2020 End of Year Elections – and all members of Troy Hill Citizens are invited to vote on the Board Members who will occupy seats for 2021. Members will vote on two returning Board Members, and one new member, Keegan Henrickson.
  • Membership Drive – be a member for 2021! Your membership supports events, activities and other happenings in the neighborhood.

Overview

Pigtoberfest is a Troy Hill community festival filled with good food, great people (your neighbors!) and fun activities.  Its name is a reference to the history of Rialto St., which was used for transporting pigs between stockyards and slaughterhouses located in Spring Hill and Herrs Island (Washington’s Landing).

Treats can be sweet or savory and will be judged by a panel of neighbors. Prizes will be awarded for first place in each category. All baked goods must arrive by 3 pm; judging will take place at 3 pm.
